Craniosacral therapy has its roots in the work of Osteopath William Garner Sutherland (1873-1954), who in the early 1900’s observed that the cranial bones have a very subtle rhythmic motion, and that the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes our brain and our nervous system has its own ‘pulse’ and is essential to maintaining our health. He termed this system Primary Respiration.

What Cranio-Sacral Therapists Can Help:

What to expect:

During the first session Madeleine will take a detailed and sensitive discussion of your history and your reasons for coming for craniosacral therapy. During the treatment you remain clothed and will usually lie face-up or on your side on a treatment table. Madeleine will gently use her hands to make contact with your body and listen to its various systems (musculoskeletal, nervous, lymphatic, cardiovascular, fascia) as well as the subtler energetic qualities of Primary Respiration.

Madeleine listens to her clients’ bodies with her hands in a similar way that a talking therapist would listen to their words. Because the body functions as a whole, she may focus on areas other than where your symptoms are occurring. It is common to feel deep relaxation, warmth, tingling, a sense of ease, increased energy and a sense of feeling more alive, balanced and heard in the truest sense of the word.

Children under 16-45 mins £60.

Our Therapist:

I have always been passionate about alternative medicine. As a teenager, I attended lectures on Ayurveda and have studied under the same doctor ever since, expanding into daily yoga practice. My goal is to support people on their vitality and well-being journey. Through my Biodynamic Craniosacral work with people going through crisis and living with chronic conditions, I have gained a broader understanding of how trauma can impact our lives and discovered a way of being in the body that feels safe.

My approach is gentle and non-judgmental, aiming to connect with the inherent vitality that governs all Beings. Some of the highlights of my CST career have been working with Teens at a Pupil Referral Unit (a school for children excluded from mainstream) and with adults in a Drug and Alcohol Recovery Centre in addition to supervising at a Teaching Clinic in Islington. I work with people across all ages – from babies to seniors.

Through complementary medicines, I have found the resources I need to deal with the stressful nature of balancing work and life demands in my personal life. I am a mother of three and I am well aware of both the joys and responsibilities of family life.

I love being in The Claygate Clinic and look forward to meeting you soon.
